Intel's Core i9-9900K trounces AMD's Ryzen 7 2700X
The eight-core, 16-thread processor was marked in the benchmark tool as "processor not recognised", but it would be safe to hazard a guess from what we've heard about the upcoming chip so far that the CPU here is the Core i9-9900K.

It rack up a score of 9,862 - a pretty impressive number in 3DMark to 9,387 points the Ryzen 7 2700X CPU got. As such, Intel's top-of-the-line mainstream processors beats its potential rival from Team Red. It also breezes past its older sibling, the 8th-gen Core i7-8700K, which when overclocked to 5GHz, scored 8,935.

Of course, benchmarks are one thing and real-world tests are another, so we'll have to wait and see if the Core i9-9900K really offers a properly noticeable hike in performance over Intel's current top PC chips. It's also worth noting that these benchmarks could be on a different Intel chip and an early engineering sample, so there's no telling just how accurate they are.
Nevertheless, all signs point towards the Core i9-9900K being a serious performance chip, ideal for enthusiast PC builders and gamers. And it will mean AMD's new Ryzen 7 chips will be left lagging behind, though Team Red's Threadripper 2 chip is a silicon slice to watch when it comes to performance.
Hopefully, the continued competition to produce faster yet more efficient chips will keep the newfound innovation in the CPU world alight, meaning we get ever more impressive processors for our desktops and laptops.

2020 Ford Bronco: Facts and fantasies

The first image of the much-anticipated 2020 Ford Bronco was released this week. Well, it was technically a photo of a beige sheet draped over the Ford Bronco, but we’ll take it.

Regardless, it offers a first look at the rebooted SUV that’s set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show next January. Until then, here’s what we know.

The most obvious thing about the tease is that the Bronco looks right, as in right angles. With a flat hood, upright windshield, and slab sides it recalls both the 1966 Bronco and the 2004 concept that fans have been salivating over since then. The only round things on it are all of its wheel openings, but the final design isn’t set in stone.

It’s a truck –

The Bronco will be built on the same platform as the also-resurrected Ford Ranger and manufactured alongside it in Michigan. That means it’s a small, body-on-frame SUV like previous Broncos were and the Jeep Wrangler is today.

It’s a hybrid –

At least some Broncos will be. Ford has announced that all of its future trucks and SUVswill offer a hybrid model, and the Bronco is included in that list. Guess what else is available with a hybrid powertrain? The Jeep Wrangler. The standard engine will likely be a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder like the Ranger is getting, with a V6 a possibility, but not a V8. Nevertheless, you can be sure that a few owners will figure out a way to jam a 5.0-liter in there at some point.

It’s (possibly) a two-door –

One thing that stands out in the image is that the ratio of hood to body suggests that we’re looking at a truck with two doors, or no more than two plus two half doors like the Toyota FJ Cruiser had. Ford is keeping this detail secret, but there will most certainly be a four-door, too, because that’s where the volume is. About two-thirds of Wranglers sold are four-doors and there’s no reason to expect things will be different for the Bronco.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 with 18:9 display, Snapdragon 450 SoC launched in India: Price, specifications
Xiaomi Redmi 5 has been launched in India, featuring an 18:9 aspect ratio display and slim bezels. Redmi 5 price in India starts at Rs 7999 and goes up to Rs 10,999 for the top variant.

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5, the company’s latest entry-level smartphone in India. Xiaomi Redmi 5 is pitched as a ‘Compact Powerhouse’, featuring a taller display in a small body and slim bezels. Redmi 5 has been launched in three variants: 2GB RAM+16GB storage, 3GB RAM+32GB storage, and 4GB RAM+64GB storage. The entry-level model with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage is priced at Rs 7999, the 3GB RAM +32GB storage will cost Rs 8,999, and the 4GB RAM +64GB storage variant costs Rs 10,999.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be made available through Amazon India, Mi.com and Mi Home Stores. Xiaomi will begin selling the Redmi 5 in India from March 20 at 12pm. Redmi 5 will also be made available through offline retail outlets in India. Redmi 5 was launched in China in December last year, along with the Redmi 5 Plus.

As for launch offers, there is an instant Rs 2200 cashback from Reliance Jio with 100GB additional data, and a 5 per cent discount on Mi.com and Amazon India using SBI credit cards. Plus, users are also eligible to get 90 per cent off on their first Kindle e-book purchase.

Redmi 5 looks familiar to the company’s recently launched the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro in terms of design. However, the phone is designed to target the entry-level segment. Xiaomi Redmi 5 will take on the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy J7 Nxt and Motorola’s Moto G5s. Far big changes become apparent when you look at the Redmi 5’s front, which sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display (1440 x 720) pixels. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5, which also has an 18:9 ratio, costs Rs 9,999 in India.

Xiaomi is pushing the Redmi 5’s strengths to the limit. Not only does it come with an extra tall display, Redmi 5 also comes with a zippy Snapdragon 450 processor and a 3300mAh battery. The device also gets a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie snapper with an LED flash. The phone runs on MIUI 9, which is based on Android7.0 Nougat. Redmi 5 succeeds the Redmi 4, which was launched in India last year.

“Xiaomi entered 2018 in India with a very strong momentum after surpassing Samsung to become the no 1 smartphone brand in the country,” Shobhit Srivastava, Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research, told Indianexpress.com. One of the key reason for its growth is its aggressive portfolio driven by a strong presence in the online segment with now expanding offline with Mi homes and Mi preferred retailers. The launch of Redmi 5 in India will further strengthen Xiaomi’s portfolio in its target segment of the mid-range smartphone.” The analyst further said that the Redmi 5 will bridge the gap between Redmi 5A and Redmi Note 5 smartphones.

The launch of the Redmi 5 proves that Xiaomi is adopting a focused approach to increase its user base in India. The company has disrupted the smartphone market with a strong portfolio across various price segments. Global smartphone makers like Samsung and Apple have long ignored the low-end market. This provided Xiaomi an opportunity to become India’s top smartphone maker.

Celebrate this Pi Day with deals on both kinds of pies — pizza and dessert

You don’t need to be a mathematician to understand what Pi Day means to your pocketbook.
Pi is a Greek letter and also a symbol used in geometry for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The number 3.14159, which according to experts will “continue infinitely without repetition or pattern.”

March 14 is Pi Day because the date can be written 3.14. It has been picked up by pie bakers and pizza chains as an excuse for promotions.

Here are some of the deals to watch for, but be aware that although pi is infinite, Pi Day deals are only good on Wednesday.

"First recognized 30 years ago in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw, Pi Day observers often celebrate with a slice of their favorite pie in honour of the number's delicious sounding name," Google wrote in its blog.

Stephen Hawking dead at 76

Stephen Hawking, the brightest star in the firmament of science, whose insights shaped modern cosmology and inspired global audiences in the millions, has died aged 76.

His family released a statement in the early hours of Wednesday morning confirming his death at his home in Cambridge.
Hawking’s children, Lucy, Robert and Tim said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today.

“He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years. His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world.

Stephen Hawking, whose brilliant mind ranged across time and space though his body was paralyzed by disease, has died, a family spokesperson said early Wednesday.
The best-known theoretical physicist of his time, Hawking wrote so lucidly of the mysteries of space, time and black holes that his book, A Brief History of Time, became an international bestseller, making him one of science's biggest celebrities since Albert Einstein.

Even though his body was attacked by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, when Hawking was 21, he stunned doctors by living with the normally fatal illness for more than 50 years. A severe attack of pneumonia in 1985 left him breathing through a tube, forcing him to communicate through an electronic voice synthesizer that gave him his distinctive robotic monotone.

But he continued his scientific work, appeared on television and married for a second time.
Hawking once estimated he worked only 1,000 hours during his three undergraduate years at Oxford. “You were supposed to be either brilliant without effort, or accept your limitations,” he wrote in his 2013 autobiography, My Brief History. In his finals, Hawking came borderline between a first and second class degree. Convinced that he was seen as a difficult student, he told his viva examiners that if they gave him a first he would move to Cambridge to pursue his PhD. Award a second and he threatened to stay at Oxford. They opted for a first.

Those who live in the shadow of death are often those who live most. For Hawking, the early diagnosis of his terminal disease, and witnessing the death from leukaemia of a boy he knew in hospital, ignited a fresh sense of purpose. “Although there was a cloud hanging over my future, I found, to my surprise, that I was enjoying life in the present more than before. I began to make progress with my research,” he once said. Embarking on his career in earnest, he declared: “My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.”

He spoke also of death, an eventuality that sat on a more distant horizon than doctors thought. “I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I’m not afraid of death, but I’m in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first,” he said.

What astounded those around him was how much he did achieve. He leaves three children, Robert, Lucy and Timothy, from his first marriage to Jane Wilde, and three grandchildren.

Tata Tigor Electric: Three new variants leaked with range of 130 km

Tata Tigor EV was first showcased in India during the 2018 Auto Expo, but it was only revealed in one variant, the range-topping XZ. Now though, various media reports suggest that the electric Tata Tigor will be offered in XE, XM and XT trims, in addition to or in place of the XZ. Tata Motors has had a great focus on electric cars and made it known that it would consider rolling out the Tigor EV for the passenger car market if the demand is strong and would also look to introducing the Tiago EV since it'll be a more mass market product. But for now, the fact remains that India lacks charging stations and hence it'll be a little difficult for such all-electric cars to become part of our automotive environment.

Coming back to the Tata Tigor EV itself, it is likely to come with a chrome strip on the front grille, a full-width LED high-mount stop lamp, split LED tail lamps, dual-tone interior colour scheme, gear knob with chrome insert, gearshift indicator and driver footrest as standard.

Measuring at 3,992 mm in length, 1,677 mm in width and 1,537 mm in height, with a ground clearance of 170 mm, the Tata Tigor EV is powered by an electric motor that makes 30kW at 4500 rpm. The electric motor will use a 216 Ah battery that takes 6 hours to fully charge. The time is cut short to 90 minutes for 80% charging using a fast charger. The electric Tigor can do a top speed of 100 km/h and a range of 130 km on one full charge.

Tata Tigor EV's higher trim levels will come with projector headlamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, adjustable mirrors, body coloured door handles, body coloured ORVMs with LED turn indicators, automatic climate control, rear power outlet (in addition to standard front power outlet), touchscreen infotainment system, rear-seat armrest with cupholders, dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD and CSC, parking sensors and parking camera.

It isn't confirmed so far if the Tata Tigor EV will make it to the passenger car market, but Tata Motors has already started deliveries of the electric Tigor to the EESL. However, back in November 2017, Tata Motors MD Guenter Butschek said that the Tigor EV will be rolled out to private buyers if there is a strong demand.

Android P First Developer Preview launched: Here's how to install it on your supported Pixel device
Android P First Developer Preview launched

Google's latest version of Android is has arrived, allowing developers to climb aboard and start preparing their applications for the update. Google has announced the preview only for developers which means that regular users will not be able to download it just yet.

The update is only for Google's Pixel range of smartphones which includes the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL. Pixel users who are not signed up as developers yet can also go ahead try the preview, but one does have to be comfortable using command line tools and wiping the device for a fresh start with Android P. Developers on a different device can go ahead and download the Android Emulator to test their apps.

As far as installation is concerned, Google has outlined the entire process in detail on its developer site. To begin with the installation process, one has to download the latest Developer Preview system image and manually flash it to the Pixel device. Now, Google has four separate system images on its site for all four devices so you will need to cross-check before go ahead with the download.

Before heading on to the process of flashing the update, Google does prompt users to create a backup of the phone since installing a system image on a device removes all data on it. Once a backup has been created, the user can go ahead and flash the system image onto the device. Google has also gone on and also added a comprehensive guide to flashing the device if one is not too sure about how to go about it.

Once the files are flashed, you are good to go. However, there is one major downside to manually flashing system images and that is the fact that these devices will not automatically receive OTA updates to later Developer Preview milestone builds or the final public release. So the user will have to manually keep a tab on updates and repeat the process once an update is available.

Uninstalling the preview is also quite similar. A factory spec system image of the Pixel device it was installed on needs to be downloaded from the Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices page. The image is then required to be flashed manually.

Google seems to be sticking to a routine here, as this the third year that they have decided not release the first developer preview via the Android Beta Program, which allows users to get early Android builds via OTA updates on select devices.
